Before you enrol

Frequently asked questions

Grouped by what you're choosing, how you enrol, how the courses run, and what you'll need to take part.

What does each course cover?

Crema Barista School teaches three core skills: espresso fundamentals, milk texturing and latte art. You'll work through dialling in a shot, steaming milk to the right texture, and pouring it into latte art, the way we teach new staff at our own espresso bar on Smith St.

Are the courses suitable for beginners?

The courses are built for home baristas wanting to improve their coffee at home, and for new café staff learning the basics on the job. Each course on /courses sets out what it covers, so you can see what suits you before you enrol.

How are the lessons filmed and taught?

Every lesson is filmed on a commercial two-group machine at our Collingwood bar, and every shot and pour is checked against a scale and a timer, not by eye. You're seeing exactly how a café-standard espresso and pour should look and measure.

How do I enrol in a course?

Browse the full list of courses at /courses and choose the one that fits what you want to learn. Enrolment happens on the course page itself.

Where do I find pricing?

Pricing is listed on each course page at /courses, alongside what the course covers.

Can I work through a course at my own pace?

Yes. The courses are online, so you can watch whenever suits you, any time of day or night.

What do I need to watch the lessons?

A phone, tablet or computer with an internet connection is all you need to watch.

Do I need my own espresso machine to take a course?

No. The lessons are filmed step by step so you can watch and learn the method first, then practise on whatever machine you have access to, at home or at work.

Can I use these courses to train new café staff?

Yes. New café staff use the courses to learn espresso fundamentals, milk texturing and latte art the same way, step by step, checked against a scale and a timer rather than guesswork.

Can I visit the bar in person?

Yes. Our bar at 112 Smith St, Collingwood is open Mon–Fri, 7am–3pm, if you'd like to see the machine the lessons are filmed on.
